Newbie in the UK, looking for help!!

Hi, I've just got into the SS world, with a second hand MKv 510 machine, thats in need of a good clean and overhaul. What do you recommend to clean up and lubricate / preserve the way bars, tables etc. I've seen some really good overhauls on much older machines on line and would like to bring this machine back to it's former glory.
Also, wheres the best place to find spares and accessories, other than ebay and SS? I can only find one distributor in the UK and their web site directs you back to the SS web site!

There are a lot of threads on this forum that deal with your maintenance subjects. You just need to spend a little time on the site looking for them. You can use the search tool, located on the red bar toward the top of the page. For some, elbow grease and wax is a good method. Nick recently shared a way to clean the way tubes via soaking them in a sealed container with water and cut up potatoes in it for two weeks. I do not know other then E-Bay or SS (and possibly Craig's list or the SSUG site) where you can find parts easy in the UK. WD40 and Scotchbrite pads or steel wool will do a fine job of removing rust. If you need paint, rustoleoum make a hammered finish paint line that is excellent. After removing the rust on the waybars give them several light coats of pastewax and your headstock should glide along on them beautifully. All your belts and such are available from SS. Enough with the "wit".

On our Sawdust Sessions, we are going to be rebuilding a mid 60's 500. This will include:

1) What to look for when purchasing
2) Just getting it running
3) Clean up (way tubes and frame)
4) Adjustment/Alignment
5) Upgrade table system
6) Upgrade headstock

Bringing it up to the 520 model. And knowing Nick as well as I do, there will be a TON more. We are planning on starting this series within a month/month-and-a-half. Sounds like these videos should be right up your alley, so tune in.
