Jointer Retro-Kit Upgrade Question
I'm finally getting around to installing the Jointer Retro-Kit which adds a dust chute and rear cutter guard. My question is about the mounting of the rear cutter guard. The kit came with a template for locating the holes to drill in the fence. What looks odd to me is the location of the existing hole in the fence relative to the third hole in the rear cutter guard. If I use the template, the rear cutter guard will be mounted like this:

But is seems to me the third hole should align with the existing hole in the fence thus the mounting would be like this:

Here is another picture. The center punched holes is where the template would have me drill and the penciled circles is where I would drill to allow the third hole to align.

Any words of wisdom on which of the two locations I should use?

mountainbreeze, I am curious, I do not have a hole for mounting accessories where the rear blade guard attaches. My fence has two holes for mounting accessories. One is closer to the outfeed end than yours. Also my 2004 jointer's rear blade guard uses the two outboard holes to mount it. How many holes does your fence have to mount accessories?
I would use your second location if you currently only have two holes for accessories.

There appears to be different hinge widths.
Mine is like Benush's and the holes I have marked out are similar to his also.(I have not gotten around to drilling/tapping them). I did punch a 'half hole' in the end of the hinge to allow the existing hole to be used as originally intended.
I obtained my parts in pieces, so I do not have proper instructions nor a template.
How critical is the height of the hinge above the bottom of the fence. All I can 'see' is that it must not interfere with the fence tilted to the max. Then higher should be 'better'.
In any event, the existing accessory mount holes should not be covered up.
I got the guard when I got the chute(which was why I got them). IMHO the old style guard moved to the back when rabbeting is sufficient so I have not installed the newer guard.

I think CS deserves a shot at answering this.

Jointer Retro-Kit Upgrade Question
There are, obviously, more than one or two versions of this option.
I did not drill or tap the holes in my jointer. It came this way.

Given the variations that we see here, I wonder if the installation of the Auxiliary Jointer Fence comes into play. It mounts using the two (only one of which is shown in any of the attached images) untapped holes which, in turn, makes me wonder if there are multiple versions of that fence.

Curious about the taped ends of the 'shield'. An attempt to minimize further cracking around the mounting screws?dusty wrote:There are, obviously, more than one or two versions of this option.
