I only see leaking when I use cheap no name batteries or I let the batteries go beyond their recommended shelf life. Once a year I try to find all my flashlights and check the battery dates. If they are past the date I toss them and get new batteries. With LED flash lights I find this to be particularly important because the batteries last a long time. I generally don't use anything but Duracell. I do this with anything that doesn't use a rechargeable or button style battery.

I don't think a flashlight is a good place to store your dead batteries.
Duracell.
I've never had a cell, or battery for that matter, go leaky on me that had gone beyond the expiration date. Nowadays, to go along with your commentary with which I agree, whenever I detect a flashlight light even seem to be dimmer I change the cells or the battery.
I do use cells that come with a device. But I pretty much keep track opf these things, and I replace the power units when I get uneasy, regardless of dates or intensity.

The failed units all had Years to go to be "expired". The date is completely useless and bogus.
