I can only see one thing wrong with this analogy. Sheriff Taylor's sidekick's gonna be ticked off!

The way I see it, Rocky's playing 3-D chess, and Barney's playing tiddly-winks. (And, losing badly!)

But, from where I'm sitting, the other side (of the aisle) isn't doing any better.

Db5, you are truly correct. (As is Ben.) We DO need leadership. GOOD leadership.

And, I don't see any. Anywhere.

I don't think I missed your point but perhaps I did. Please explain.

Why is it the American way? Freedom of speech! The American People once had freedom of speech. Today we don't but the fact is the concept of Freedom of speech is a constitutional right and therefore the American Way.

If someone writes something you don't like don't read it. You are not forced to read anything on forum.

I think most people realize by now the community subgroup has become a soapbox for things that bother other woodworkers. Those things may not always be woodworking related but most of us are effected by them. If things are said that upset you in the community subgroup don't read it. It is that simple.

A thread only continues on if other people(woodworkers) respond to it. The fact that people respond means one of two things. Either they have no interest but can't resist putting their two cents in or they do care and want to express their opinion.

I don't believe Admin should allow off subject discussions to continue in the other four subgroups. While it does happen I haven't seen it enough to warrant telling people to leave the forum.

In community forum or not, politics (and religion) are not good subjects for discussion. Each are a personal closely held belief and not likely to be altered as a result of anything posted. i.e. they lack objectivity or a meaningful goal other than self promotion of your opinions.

"The point" is that 'self control' needs to be exercised by the individual posting the 'taboo'(:rolleyes:) subject matter, not by any reader.

So from your parting comment, I detect an opinion that we should begin using the 'snipe' method for imposing our own opinions on others(or denying them expressing theirs) by 'reporting' them to admin. How is that 'the American way'? All too common however IMHO.

I don't think I suggested or implied "sniping" if I did I did not mean to. I'm sorry if that is the impression I left you with.

Perhaps I'm very wrong but I find it hard to accept as a legitimate reason for not visiting the Shopsmith forum as being, the subject matter of SOME threads. Again if the thread upsets you or angers you don't read it.

There is a wealth of great information exchanged here each day, to say I'm going to ignore that wonderful information because I don't like what someone said in a thread I had no interest in seems to me like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Forgive me if that is too blunt or shows a lack of understanding of the problem.

Hey maybe I am missing the whole point because I missed a problem thread. I openly admit I don't read threads that I have no interest in. If I'm way off base please bring me back.

Upon 'review':D I determined I read more into what you posted than intended. I now believe you meant you have not observed excessive meandering which would result in admin taking independent action. Key word - independent - from user input(snitching).

My bad!:o

Upon even further review, I used the word snipe when I meant snitch. Oh well the first three letters were correct!

Thanks farmer but I guess I should just give up. Wood working and/or the Shopsmith just do not seem to be the major topics of discussion on this form anymore.
