I just received a Safety Recall. So what, you ask.

That would be my reaction too except that I have a 1993 Ford F250 1/2 Ton Pickup. Who'd a thunk there would be a recall after twenty one years.

Got an appointment to get it fixed on Friday morning.

they are scared because of GM

I imagine every car maker is burning the midnight oil to see if ANYTHING should be fessed up to. GM is in a world of hurt and more to come.

You are probably correct in that assessment. This recall is due to a possible fuel leak caused by a faulty valve in the cruise control system.

I hardly ever use the cruise control any more. I avoid long trips with this vehicle and I don't use cruise control in city traffic.

What I expect will happen though is the Ford Service Manager will come out and present to me a long list of items that he found that need repair. Yeah, it is old like the guy that drove it in. There are a few things that don't work like they once did.

What is the recall for? They should state in the recall is about. I have a 2001 Ford Ranger that was recalled a few years ago for a defective pressure switch inside the master cylinder that caused hundreds of Fords to burst into flames. Ford, like GM knew about the problem for many years before they were finally forced into a recall. And, worst of all, they didn't fix the defective switches. They simply put a fuse into the circuit that should have been fused from day one. When the switch leaks and fails, the customer still gets stuck with the repair cost to this day.
There is no engineering quality in newer vehicles today. They just cobble them together and sell them to unsuspecting buyers.

This ole Ford was cobbled together pretty well. It has been a work horse for many of the years that I have owned it. We towed a trailer most of that time and have had no unusual maintenance expense.

I was just surprised at a recall after twenty one years.

I'm still sitting on a recall for a Toyota power window switch. Someday that thing will go up in flames, and then I'll say, "I should've taken care of it."

Reminds me of a former neighbor who showed up at my door and asked if I happened to see who took his truck. I had not and he commented," well I guess I need to learn to take the keys with me when I leave the truck." Yes he did get it back and the keys were still in the ignition. Although once the thief ran it into a tree the keys became useless. Jim

Dusty, your truck was made in the days when the Ford slogan was "Quality is job 1." Since then, industry standards have changed so we no longer have quality inspectors. We also got rid of quality inspectors in the military rework facilities. No one ensures that all the work is done correctly. The quality inspection is now up to us.

All I can say is that I have four Fords, 62 Falcon, two Focus, one Lincoln MKZ Hybrid. The piece of crap is the Falcon with 52000 miles on it. The Focus's each have 140000 miles on them and can't be killed. When people say they don't make them like they used to I say, "thank God!". :rolleyes:

Your Focus's must not be early first year built in Mexico editions. The location is relevant because they had been building them in Europe for the European market earlier. There is no way that car would be on the road today.

The first problems started within warranty and continued until someone did me the favor of taking it off the roads. I fought with Ford including the 8 recalls and the problems the recalls caused. When corrosion to the springs cause the stabilizers to fail, the paid for the springs only and told me with a straight face that they weren't related. When water flooded the floors from the AC, they offered a $1200 repair. The $750 Fuel pump replacement, the failed emergency brake, the thousands in repair fees.

The final straw was when I went to pick up the car after paying hundreds in repair bills and the alternator light came on at the dealer for another several hundred. This is one of the reasons I'll never by another Ford again - that and the fact that my Honda has done 7 peaceful years without a major repair.
