New to Me.10er in the shop.

I just swapped an in the white coffee table for another 10ER .This one has the speedchanger on it and a 3/4hp moter.It came with the Dado blades,scroll saw,homemade bench witht he Ss retracting casters.original paperwork,mortise attachment,disc sander,drum sander,Turning tools and all the lathe stuff,jacobs chuck.What looks like a shaper or edger attachment fence and jointer looking cutting head?Did they make jonters for these? i'll post a picture alittle later.

I'm thinking more along the lines of table legs and Windsor chair legs and spindles.Bowls maybe down the road but I don't see pens in my furture but who knows.

The 4E jointer was made specifically for the model 10 machines. The mounting kit replaces the headrest. The jointer is hinged and swings out of the way when not needed. Here is one of the members machines with the jointer mounted

Yep! 2 1/2" wide. Cutter mounts on quill, fence mounts IN table insert opening.

Good condition indeed!

That is a 'jig saw'.

Yes they did, the model 4E. Here's a link to the manual. They are much the same as the current jointer, except for a different machine mount.

And here's a link to a manual for the jointer mount. These reportedly had a strong tendency to get broken, and so can be to hard find.

I got lucky, and both came with my 10ER, undamaged. I suspect that my Mark V jointer will continue to get all the use, but it's cool to have a complete set of vintage stuff for the 10ER.

I do believe that the shaper/jointer fence, along with the spindle-mounted jointer head, were much more common on 10ER's.

What a clean old gal! Very nice and nicely equipped! The jointer works, just not as well at the 5/7... but it is a 60 year old design .....

I does cut some cool rabbets though

Paul, if you can look one up, the shaper/jointer fence for the Mark 5 500 will fit on the ER. It mounts basically like the ripfence, and one of the sides has a micro-adjustment on it. One of my many ERs came with one, but it was missing the rear hold-down. With a little bit of hand sanding a rear ripfence hold-down, fits perfectly. (One of my ripfences was in not-so-good condition, so it made the ultimate sacrifice.)

The ER shaper/jointer fence is weak at best, and the 500 one is better. Of course, the swing down REAL jointer for the ER, is MUCH better than any others.

Any more questions about the ER, just ask.

Oh, use the ER for lathe work, instead of a Mark-X. All that cast iron makes them the better lathe. (Or that is what the consensus of owners of both there, say.)

Well I took it for a test drive today.I needed some 3/4" dadoes for this Hutch I'm working on so set it up.First lesson: you can't just hog out 3/4" X3/8"deep dado in one pass.Surprise right?Lesson #2: The previous owner had it wire for 220 for a reason.The 110 setup shut down during the project due to too much heat.Lesson #3: Slow down! Turned the speedchanger back to #3 and it allowed the motor to operate alot cooler without shutdown.I proceded to make two 3/16" passes on each piece and things worked better.Lesson #4: Remember you're working with 50 yr.old technology.These were designed to be mor efficient than doing it by hand.They aren't today's woodworking machines by any means.
all in all ,lots of fun.
