jointer blade protrusion
I have finally gotten around to installing my greenie jointer head and installing the blades that I had sharpened. I have them set so they just touch a pair of torpedo levels that are set on the out feed table. Monday when I get my dial depth indicator from my other shop I will do a final setting.
I did not notice this when I took it all apart to clean, derust and pull the blades because it was not of interest at the time. I feel the blades extend too far out of the cutter head. Right now they are 9/32 from the cutter head to the heel of the bevel. I looked at 2 other jointers I have, a floor mount and a Menards SS clone. At best that distance is 1/16th". This is over a 1/4", thats allot of unsupported blade IMHO. Thoughts and what does yours measure?
Da, just remembered I have a SS goldie jointer too, I did not look at my goldies jointer sitting on the shop floor waiting to be refurbished, a trip to the shop and I may answer my own question, be right back!!! They are extended 6/32 from the head to the heel of the bevel, bevel angle looks about the same. Greenie cutter head is mounted to the rear table casting, I dont think a spacer/washer goes in between the casting and the cutter head mounting piece?

Measure once, cut as many times as needed to get it right! Bob

Jointer Blade Protrusion
I don't know how to meaningfully measure blade protrusion but I did go to the shop to look at mine. I took a couple pictures that may help to answer your question.
The blades on mine have been adjusted so as to be even with the outfeed blade when the cutting edge of the blade is "in the same plane" as that of the outfeed table.

The blade protrudes above the cutter head (the wedge) in this image by approximately 5/32".
I am playing with camera settings and image resolution at the same time.

Dusty, by your pics and comparison to my 3 other jointers, the blades on my greenie jointer are protruding way too high unsupported on there back side. Just need to figure out why. They are basically set to the height of the out feed table within a few .000, not a few 32nds!!

To draw any conclusions, it is first necessary that we make sure that the comparisons are appropriate. I do not have a greenie jointer and I can not confirm that mine is similar to a greenie.
It has been too long since I had the cutter head removed. I do not remember if there is any movement available when installing the cutter head into the jointer. I do not believe there is. So if the cutter heads cannot be installed differently, there remains only "how deep into the cutter head" the blades are installed and that is an adjustment. But you say that the blades are set at the height of the outfeed table which is correct.
Without hands-on I am confused. Pictures might help.

I looked at the exploded part diagram on SS site in case I missed installing a spacer/washer between the bearing housing and the jointer casting, no such thing. "Pics, you want pics? We dont need any freaken pics", LOL!!! I cant post pics, trying to figure that one out!!!!!!!

BTW Dusty I am measuring from the cutter head to the bottom (heel) of the bevel on the back side of the blade, not from the top of the mounting "wedge" to the very tip of the blade.

Good Afternoon! Well it is here!
Now I see why Dusty 'deferred'.
Spent too many hours playing Blackjack at a Catholic Church 'fund raiser' aka country fair. This is a big event here. Rivals the county fairs of yesteryear sans agriculture stuff, but includes other more interesting stuff(like gaming tables):D. Where else can you find a dollar BJ table that only uses 4 decks?
There is a difference between slacking and sacking other than one measly character(the word, not the sack occupant)!
If you think I Am meandering while waiting for a bright flash of insight to occur re your protrusion ye be accurate.
Consider this a preamble to my going out to the shop and further await for the flash.

Blade is "no longer adjusted".
For reference:
The blade height is 23/32" and the wedge is 9/32".
