Children in the shop

Post by swampgator »

Today, after 5 years of exposure to the SS, the 7 year old grandson got his hands on the quill bar. I had him to watch me install the chuck and bit. After putting in a sacrificial board and setting the depth stop, I showed and told him where we were going. He flipped the switch while I held the wood in position. It was set up in the horizontal boring machine mode. He eased the spinning bit toward the mark on the wood. I guided him with words only. He listened and once he got his first bore, he was smiling and said, "I love this machine." We bored 4 holes 5/16" through and then counter bored each of the entry sides of the 2" X 2" crossbars. When I showed him what he had achieved, he was all smiles. He inserted the bolts and spun on the nuts. More smiles. He loved what he did and now, I may have to share my SS with him in the near future. :D I hope I have set the hook.

Sounds pretty certain that you’ve created a shop assistant and carpenter to be. He said as much himself.

Nicely done sir. :o
