An Open Letter to Engineers and Left-Brained Members

I hate you. I hate you all. Well, when I want to solve a problem I love you - all who reply. Otherwise I hate you and here is a logical (sort of) reason why. I might have been one of you but math was incomprehensible so I became a shrink (Psych) because people were more comprehensible than math (NOT).

Why do I hate you all? Because you give one sentence answers with links to something that is easy to find and I take forever to explain what I want to know on this sight. Have doubts? Check the history on messages. I'll bet that the count on my input exceeds anyone of these half-brained (well, the left brain is only half) engineers by more than 70 Percent. It seems that Robert Browning, a right-brained poet recognized this when he wrote "Well, less is more, Lucrezia." Lucrezia must have been an engineer. God bless her heart. You from the south, or who have spent time there will recognize that phrase.

First Part? My Brain? Last Part? My Hemorrhoids? Too late for the first part I fear. For the last part - well it is a PITA. Any suggestions from you parsimonious engineers?

Step one) Think it through and determine what you need to know.

Step two) Chose your words carefully so as to not include any ambiguous or non relevant information. i.e. Be specific.

Step three) Then include any background info that may be helpful in deciphering(by left brained individuals) step two.

Step four) Include pix.

Step five) Wait for a simple direct answer and possibly a link.

Step six) Ignore any responses from right brained individuals.

Step 2 - Good suggestion. However, from we (or is it Wee) right brained how can we determine the information to include? Not to be making light of your suggestion which is well taken and noted. Know or at least determine your audience.

What do you want them to know and / or understand? That is the final paragraph of your story, however you write it first

Decide your intended outcome. Informational, instructional, anecdotal, amusement, etc.

Write your draft to fit your final story, tempered by what you want for an outcome.

Does it fit your target audience? Too much detail, too little, about right. Adjust as needed.

Don't write when you are tired or emotional. During those stages, rambling becomes the norm. UNLESS ..... Your outcome is to show emotion. Then follow my lead and blather on and on ad nauseum.

APA format or e e cummings. Either style can be learned and used in the appropriate context. Telling a story or explaining a procedure isn't any different.

Perfect example, First I am an engineer, retired, well I guess you dont retire from thinking!!! I had a A Fib heart for the past 5 years, treated with meds, cant understand a dam thing my cardiologist sez, talks like a right brain Dr, in med terms.
Refers me to a Cardio Electophysisist, he is going to do a Cardio Ablation, go in and redirect the current going through my heart to get rid of the Fib/Flutter. Well I can understand everything he sez, BECAUSE he has an engineer minor!!!!!!
BTW he fixed it!!! Feel great again.
Now isnt a theropist suppose to listen, then filter out the patients BS, and then direct them down the road to find there own answers. Thats what mine did. So much time there I have hung out my own shingle. Learned syco therapy by osmosis!!!!!!!!!!

The 'trick' re doctors in general is finding one who is not overly impressed with their education etc. i.e. a preponderance of common sense. Sadly not 'common' trait.

Hmmmm, my doctors are all great. But I don't comprehend much of their mumbo-jumbo. And, their masks, with all those feathers often freak me out. And I do wish they wore more clothes and and less paint.
Not sure if they are right brained, or not.
