Hypotheitcal Real World wood movement question ...

I cut the ice in the winter and store it in the ice house packed in saw dust. Messier then a swamp cooler though.
Rjent, why are the SC better then AC out there? I am guessing because it is soooo dry that you get a really great evaperation ratio?

Exactly! We can take 90-95 degree air at 10 or 15 percent H and cool it to 65 to 75 degrees at 5000 CFM outlet volume. If your house is (to make it simple) 1000 sq ft, you are exchanging all of the air just about every min. The trick is to move a lot of air, and make sure the air has some method of exiting the house. It is great for allergies as well as you have this effective water bath 5000 CFM air filtration/humidification/cooling device loving called a swamp box. Back in the colonial days, the "Ranch" style house was surrounded with a Veranda or covered porch and they hung wet burlap bags (the ones they didn't use for underwear anyway:D ) and they let the breeze cool the adobe house.

As far as drying, yeah, with 20 percent humidity and below, water doesn't last long. We live at 5000 feet altitude, so we also have cooler air than say Dallas (with their humidity) or 29 Palms (with their .... Californians .... ) but we are cooler to start because of our altitude.

Yep! 120+ upon arrival, got up as high as 129. We will not speak of night time temps. Damn what a contrast!!!

I did not 'get into town'! Went to Las Vegas fer the week end.

AH, life of being a 14 boy, and the allure of a fresh, soft, tender young lass, sure beats the odors of fresh cut wood or/and cutting oil in a machine shop!!!!
In time, when the novelty wares off, he will come around to grandpa for wisdom and skills!!!

Using gloves when handling fir is a really good thing to do!

So, ice and fan are your idea of an artic cooler. Slightly more efficient that a swamp cooler!
Ya, but shoot, when all that ice melts on the floor, it just raises the humidity right back up, not to mention the mold problem!!!!
