Wedding Ceremony Wine/Note box

A close friend of the family is getting hitched this Saturday. I was asked to make a couple of items. The first is a box to hold a bottle of wine and notes to each other.The ceremony is to nail the box shut and after the first fight, they open the box, read the notes and enjoy the wine, and each others company.

The wedding colors are purple and green so I used purple-heart, of course. The other woods are poplar for the lid and hickory for the long sides.
The other project I'll post tomorrow (on the 4th)when I finish it.

Two questions
One is it a good idea for a couple that is fighting to have a pry bar to open such a box?

Two what couple do you know takes a pry bar with them on their honeymoon much less the box with a bottle of wine in it?

Oh I see they are to open it after their first fight not during their first fight. Okay that might work.

Very nice. I like the contrasting woods and the use of finger joints. Is it Red Heart and Butternut? Once again, a great project and thanks for posting.

Here is the second project for the wedding. It's for the Sand pouring ceremony. Purple-heart and Hickory again. Two panes of glass, about 1 1/2in. between them. The lid unscrews and the middle bar comes out. they pour the sand in the bottom and replace he bar. Then they have a smaller picture frame that sits on the bar and it has enough room around that frame for other decorations if wanted. I finished it off with a shellac & walnut oil based friction polish I picked up for turning pens.

Both very nice! I also like to use a turning friction-polish sometimes on bigger pieces, sort of gives "French Polish" benefits without a lot of new learning and expenditure.
