Old carpenter new to Shopsmith!
Hi folks! The name's Gregg. I've been a carpenter in the SF Bay Area for over 35 years, doing everything from foundations (including new construction, foundations under houses, even moving houses) to fine finish work. I've worked mostly in the North Bay (Marin and Sonoma Counties), but have worked all over the region. These days, with back and knee issues, I'm mostly doing project management-type jobs.
Any-who, come Monday I'll be the owner of a Shopsmith! A local thrift shop got one in, and sold it (not to me). It has sat there for 2 weeks with the sold sign on it. I told the manager that I was interested, should the buyer not return. Well, I just got the call saying the buyer couldn't be reached, so it was offered to me!
I know that it's WAY incomplete (set up currently as a table saw), but it's very clean...and only $45.
I don't know the model number yet, but I thought I'd register here, and get set up to ask questions once the SS is in my possession.
The first question is, how did I do?

Welcome!
It's hard to say for sure without knowing the condition, but for $45 (was that a mis-type???) sounds to me like you got a really good deal!
You have come to the right place to get it up and running. There are folks on this site that know all there is to know about your SS.

[quote="greggf"]Heh, no mis-type, it's 45 bucks (started off at $75). The color is green (same as some of you guys, it seems ]
Assuming original paint, it is a Greenie'. Again if 'original', gilmer drive, 3/4 hp motor, 1 7/8" bench tubes(originally painted).
All good, just some not compatible with more recent stuff. However all that is upgradable.
Welcome. Read the sticky posts at the top of the Maintenance and Repair forum.
Does it run? DO NOT adjust the speed dial unless the pulleys are rotating.

Welcome to the forum.I just bought a greenie for $50.00 had scroll saw and one saw blade. If it runs you can't hardly go wrong.
