fence issues
Is it possible to try to bend the Jointer Fence Tilt Quadrant back into place with a vice? The one I acquired used with a MARK V greenie (painted gray) is visibly bent causing the fence to go upward in front. Photos are attached. Also why would are there 3 holes in the auxiliary fence? The fence came in the lot with the system. I am still working on cleaning up everything I acquired this past spring. Photos are attached. Thanks.

Before I bought a new quadrant, I had modest success in straightening my old one with the aid of a bench vise. But the new quadrant was better.delong94 wrote:Is it possible to try to bend the Jointer Fence Tilt Quadrant back into place with a vice? Regarding the three holes in the auxiliary jointer fence, I believe that there are a couple different versions of the jointer fence, with a difference in hole locations. I suspect that the three holes in the Aux fence are to make it compatible with both fence versions.

I think I had reasonable success squeezing the quadrant casting since the fence now just barely rests on the table. I added a shim between the vise jaws and the open end of the quadrant to apply the squeeze there. The secret I believe is to sneak up on the desired closure(squeeze, mount, check, repeat). No that is not a freudian slip!!!!:D

Is the aux fence resting on the table?(thus forcing the fence up?)delong94 wrote:Ok... I put the quadrant in the vise and was able to bend it. I got it to barely rest on the table... Now when I add the aux. fence, it raises the original fence considerably. Am I doing something wrong?

The aux fence is a SS accessory with the featherboards and is resting on the main table. I posted a photo of it in an earlier post. It had pre-drilled holes and came with the original instructions. It is forcing the fence up. I know you can't tighten it very hard, but it raises the fence. There is nothing noted in the instruction sheets, etc. I thought I was doing something wrong.JPG40504 wrote:Is the aux fence resting on the table?(thus forcing the fence up?)
