Mark VII / 510 Upgrade

Just a thought, has anyone ever upgraded an old Mark VII with a 510 table set-up? I have a Mark VII recently restored with a aluminum cam and steel gear rack that going to be a keeper. I was going to just use it as a unit to run my SPT's but I'm considering a 510 table set-up if I see a decent priced one on Ebay. I already have a 510 which is my main go-to machine.

Ahhh...I just remembered, a 510 carriage won't work with the gear rack without modification.

Double tilt may be a problem.(the MVII table tilts 90 both ways) The carriage would have to be replaced which would preclude using the old table(post spacing).

I think it is more trouble than it is worth and you would lose some unique features of the M VII.

But I can understand you wanting compatability/common hardware.

Do tell more about the steel rack. Where, when did you get them?

I saw a Mark VII on CL for $50 about a half hour from home. A week before I had picked up one for $50 and was restoring it, so I figured I'd use the new one for parts. When I went to buy it, I checked the speed control and it was aluminum, so I was pretty happy but the plastic gear rack was broken. As I was leaving the guy ran out and stopped me, giving me a steel gear rack that the previous owner had made special for him. The back was concaved so it would fit on the way tube. Needless to say, after that I really happy. Both machines were in such good shape I went through both of them, bearing, belts, paint etc. Since then I found another one for $50 that I couldn't pass up. That one's waiting to be done over. The one with the aluminum cam and steel gear rack though is my keeper.
