Well, I found the cardboard gasket did leak more than I expected. A friend gave me a piece of neoprene and cork gasket material that he said came from "automotive" use. It is 0.125" thick. I cut out a jigsaw gasket using the scan of the original posted earlier as a template and mounted it under the plastic window and carefully snugged up the mounting screws. It has now been 48 hours and it is not leaking at all (yet?).

I also scribed a full line on the plastic to avoid peering into the recesses of the case trying to see the fill bolt, thank you to Bill Mayo for that idea.

Today I ran with djwatts40's great idea of installing an oil fill point in the jigsaw window.

The jigsaw happens to be set up as a file machine. I used a brass hose fitting ( has a sticker with 5710131 on it) which has a cap made from a garden hose end with a piece of plastic to blank it off.

It is screwed into a snug fitting hole in the plastic. It provides a good size hole, 0.56"dia., to put the oil in. I overfilled the case a bit but I don't think it will hurt anything.

I thought you might like to see it.

JPG40504 wrote:'Lexan' would probably be a good choice. The cast cover makes an excellent template for the gasket. Auto supply stores sell gasket material by the sheet and is inexpensive. When making the gasket do not overlook the need to provide an air path for the vent(that is the reason for the cloverleaf around the mounting holes).
Is this the vent hole?? In the photo above it appears the hole is covered.

The gasket is cut back under the upper right washer.

I have a few of the Plexiglas covers left over from earlier years. No oil line has been scribed on them and they still have the protective sheet on each side of the cover. I do not have any gaskets made. Contact me off line if interested. Thanks.
