Older Jointer Dust Collection Add-on
Got an older jointer for the Shopsmith and am now looking to add the dust collection add-on to it. Typical of Shopsmith's website, the page is extremely vague and only says that some "drilling and tapping required". That and the picture is so damn small and I can't really make out any details about what's in the package. Does anyone have any experience with this and if so, how well is this setup to install? Was the drilling and tapping difficult?

The 'drilling and tapping' is on the backside of the fence. It provides a mounting point for the backside shaft/cutter shield. It consists of two holes.
If you are accustomed to drilling and tapping it is of minimal concern.
There seem to be different versions of the fence that have a different location for holes for mounting jigs that may coincide with the rear guard hinge.
I will try to add a link to a relevant thread.

Sounds like you are talking about the feather guard retrofit. The dust collection does not require drilling of the fence. It does require drilling and tapping of the underside of the jointer. I have not done this one my self but it should not be too difficult.JPG40504 wrote:The 'drilling and tapping' is on the backside of the fence. Here's a link to a thread I started when I added the upgrade to my jointer. It may answer some of your questions. I found the drilling and tapping to be easy and I have done very little of that in the past.

THAT's the thread I was seeking and did not find!:(
I also did not remember the "U" guard since I did not mount 'mine'.
Neither did I drill/tap for the chute itself.(IIRC)
