IF making a shorty????

Until I got my metal cutting bandsaw, I found I had to just cut through the tube and then rotate about 30 deg and cut again following a line I drew around the tube. I could not cut straight thru the tube without going off at an angle.

All I did was get a pipe plug from Lowes and replace the bolt with a longer one which allowed mounting in my drill chuck. They come in different sizes and expand when the nut is tightened. I polished all my 10 ER tubes on my 520 using different sizes of plugs. Or you can get replacement freeze plugs from the auto parts store, which has a greater selection of sizes.rbursek wrote:joedw00,
what kinda chuck is that on the ER in your pic? I would appreciate more info on it please.

Thanks Fred,
plus seeing what greenshop? did in another thread here similar. My ER in the basement that will be dedicated for a lathe, I want to really clean up the tubes, paint is in great shape on all my ERs, I love lead, and always fed my kids enough so they did not have to eat paint chips.

Measure once, cut as many times as needed to get it right! Bob

I used my ONEWAY TALON CHUCK. I messed up the jaws before I figured out to put some rubber around the tube.rbursek wrote:joedw00,

Same way you mount your saw blade or drill chuck on it, with a set screw.

I don't use any adapter. It just slides on like any other tool.Mike907 wrote:The chuck needs an adapter for whichever lathe it is to be used on. The 5/8" plain adapter fits Shopsmith.
