1954 Mark V headstock upgrade

I have a 54 mark V (sn 283945) that I have been working on restoring for the last couple weeks but I haven't started on the head stock. What I'd like to do is buy the power pro upgrade for a newer 520 I have then put the 1 1/8 motor and belt onto the old greenie. My question is, if I decide to do this, will I have to buy any extra parts or should I be able to just use what is left over from the 520 after the upgrade to fix up the greenie? I didn't think I'd be the only one trying to do this but I could not find a thread specifically on it.

Why not put the power pro upgrade in the greenie, and then put that headstock on the 520, and put the 520 headstock on the greenie?

A Greenie Power Pro! I love it! Has anyone done that? I love the look of the Greenies. Shopsmith should offer new machines with the retro colors as an option. Might be enough to make me buy a Mark 7 PP.

I believe the PowerPro upgrade package did not include the early Greenie ("A") headstock. I would think the thicker casing on the "A" headstock would cause problems since the motor goes inside the casing. Also the "A" headstock has fewer and smaller openings around the upper belt to check the belt tension. Also the eccentric bushing retaining clips does not work as good to hold the idler shaft. I do not recommend using the "A" headstock for the PowerPro upgrade. The later model Greenie headstock "B" will work well for the installation of the PowerPro Upgrade kit.

What I would suggest is install the PowerPro in the 520 headstock and take the removed parts from the 520 and install them in the Greenie headstock if it is an "A" headstock. This will work well.

I've thought about that quite a bit and actually wanted to just get the power pro upgrade and the 520 fence for the greenie to begin with but my grandfather bought it new in 54 and I kind of wanted to keep it looking as original as I can. However, if anyone does have a picture of a greenie with the power pro and 520 fence, that would be something to see. I really do prefer the green paint, I had to order a case of the verde green from my local lowes because they didn't keep it in stock.

AAUI, the A headstock will work with the PP upgrade. Tool Hunter did that.

That is my current plan. I have an A headstock waiting.

I realize the reduced access holes is a negative, but the heavier casting is a plus IMHO.

I was surprised when Tool Hunter posted that(over there). I think he may have been a beta tester.
