NEW Shopsmith Quick-Index Quill Feed Handle

OK, I just looked. $60.00 (OK, $59.90) for handles on a Mark series drill-press.

All 6 handles on a Model 10 dedicated drill-press, $30, from McMaster-Carr. The ones with the threaded rods and the balls on the end. And, you get a better drill-press. Both sides. These babies WILL NOT slip, or loosen up. Period! If you want to just use 6 inch bolts, Home D, Lowe's, as well as everyone else (Ace) has them, fora LOT less than $30.

But, you'll need to get another Shopsmith. (Like no one around here can use 2 Shopsmiths!)

A friend of mine just got one today, for $150. WITH the added jointer, and speedchanger.

Mine arrived Saturday and is installed. It is nice to not have the handle between the ON button and the CONFIRM button.

When installing, just be patient and work it a little. It is a very close fit on both ends of the Quill Feed Shaft.

I ordered the quill feed handle kit right after they were announced and hit the "back order list". Called customer service today and was told they 50 on inventory when they offered them for sale and quickly had orders for a couple hundred. They anticipate having the back orders filled by the end of next week. She said they are continuing to get new orders for the handle daily. Popular upgrade it seems!

Thanks Forrest for the tip of having a divider between ON and CONFIRM! Hadn't thought of that, but sounds like it would be handy.

I ordered on the 12th (first day), but in the evening (Pacific Time) and am not in the first 50 orders like Forrest.

It's nice to know that there are more than 50 of us getting the email and responding in the first day. Wish those folks could see their way to this forum!!:)

Edit: My 3 piece set was shipped Sept 26 and is now en route. It is supposed to arrive on Thursday, Oct. 2.

I wasn't sure either, but it is a significant problem so I went ahead and got it. [Actually, I actually DID think to myself I NEED a handle just like this.]

Like I told SS, I always get a grin when I open a new tool or part, but this thing darn near broke my face! I love it! And for not too many $$, to boot.
Yeah, there are many other things that could get fixed, but getting rid of those little, niggling, irritating, annoying, knuckle-crunching, "oops" causing, attention grabbing 'almost' problems make things just so much nicer and easier.

Btw, the old handle mounted on the back is just fine- not a problem like in the front. I'll not get a second of this.

Just got mine and installed it. Seems well made and works exactly as advertised. I like it -- although I won't be able to say for sure until I've used it for a while whether it was worth the investment.

One thing I noticed and I don't know if this has been mentioned before but the entire assembly stands off quite a bit further from the headstock than the old handle. Some may not like this but right away I can see an advantage: no matter where the handle is, you can always get your hand in and spin the speed dial.

I've got to admit that I have come to like the new handle arrangement but for a reason I did not expect. I like it because you can simply pull if off to get it out of the way. Sometime it on the wrong side and again it just slips off and you can (if you bought the kit) move it to the other side.

So if they happen to go on sale or have a special offer here at Christmas time I can see me getting another one for my other powerpro.
