I'm sure you all are aware of the Home Depot data breach/loss.....
The scams were sure to follow and I had an email message that made it thru the SPAM filters this morning. At first glance, it looks pretty legit (Well, it would look legit if I had an AmEx card....and I don't)
Here's a couple of jpg files from screen captures:

The wording of the first paragraph is not quite right....not horrible like some scam messages I've seen, but still not quite right.
If I 'hover' the mouse over one of the hyper-links, I could see that they would link to a faked site....(still pretty clever in the way they did it)

All of the hyper-links in the message pointed to the same URL.....
Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is "Be careful out there" and "Look before you click". This is one example of the scams that are floating around. I did not, nor do I plan to, click on any of the links.
I did dig into the behind the scenes stuff on the message headers and what the links pointed to....
The email came from a server somewhere in Italy.
Awerikan Express lives in Chile.
They were able to spoof the mail headers enough for the message to make it thru all of the firewall/filter/SPAM-filters/etc. into my mailbox.

The real interesting thing was about 2-3 months ago we went into Home Depot to buy something. My card was rejected. There was a guy supposedly working on the machines at the time. I didn't pay any attention but my wife said he was watching my every move.
I finally ended up paying cash and left the store that is when my wife told me about the guy watching everything I did. In the parking lot I called my credit card company to find out what was wrong with my card. They nothing but their fraud checker rejected the transaction. They would not tell me why because it would compromise what they use to catch fraud attempts.
I then went back into Home Depot and reported it to manager that something was wrong with their credit card processing. I suggested he or Home Depots fraud detection group should call my credit card company and find out what was going on. He Poo poo the whole thing and more of less told me not to worry that Home Depot had the latest and greatest fraud protection. He said the guy watching me was a tested employee of the card reader company.
Now we hear how the they were compromised. Idiots!!!!
My credit card worked fine at the next place we went but 2 days later the Fed Express brought us new cards with instruction to destroy the old cards. I kinda figure my card company knew Home Depot was compromised 2 to 3 months before it was reported to the public.
