My GE 3/4HP rebuild/rewire video

Sorry, it's right at 60MB. Took with phone, was excited it ran, and couldn't wait to post and get feedback. Didn't have time to reduce it down with my video editing software. My apologies but we ALL should have super fast connection speed today correct?

My novice ears tells me it sounds and runs great but I wish to hear from the experts. Shaft rotates smooth. No burning smells. RUNS!
The buzzing though....is that normal? I didn't really notice anything originally but it was encased and shorting out. Stopped execution immediately. After taking it apart I could see why. The wires had places that were cut obviously touching metal. The plug connectors were loosely crimped as well.

Please don't knock my wire color choice! It's what was on hand.
I used Bill Mayo's schematic from several years ago?? to reconnect a newer switch (the old one had very loose terminals--scary!) and a 3 prong plug/wire.

I heard nothing abnormal - gross or otherwise.

I would strongly recommend that before you put that motor in service you obtain some wire with the right color. To me it is a safety issue down stream.

I agree but for now it's staying as is.
The gauge is correct and the connections are good.

I may look at changing those colors out soon.

The 'original' wire colors being 'non-standard' negates that somewhat.

However to depart from either(original or current standard)does involve future risk as Dusty mentioned.

IIWM I would use black and white for those which that color is relevant
(power feed/neutral). The rest would likely be best as original.

Motors have a somewhat unique set of wire colors anyway.

But then what is done is done?

As mentioned, I may get some better colored wire and perform a redo.

Well....my conscious got the best of me (and the advice of others of course) and I changed the wire coloring to avoid future problems.
