How to capture videos

Post by forrestb »

I have purchased some Taunton (FWW) Woodworking Classes and watch the videos more than once.

My concern is that Taunton has had problems (Knots kitchen spam comes to mind) and does not always correct them. I would like to be able to capture the videos as I watch them so that they are not lost.

Has anyone succeeded in doing this? If so, how?

Dick, it's NICE to see someone with internet savvy around here. I'm a duffer (golf term)(and, no, I don't golf) at best.

Send me a copy, if you wouldn't mind.

10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.

Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

I use an app on my Android phone called "TubeMate." Its aim is to download and save YouTube videos, but I've found it works for a lot of other videos too.

I have only recently 'acquired' this and do not have any opinion on it (yet).

I just looked at the link you provided and I did not understand anything they were saying!

If you try it, and it isn't too technical to use, let us know.

OK guys, IMHO, I prefer to download a video in it's native format MPG4, AVI, etc. Once you have it on your HD, you can manipulate it anyway you want (including burning to DVD for viewing on larger screens).

Again, Forrest, if you want to give me a link so I can "test" I can give you step by step instructions on getting your videos so you can enjoy them.

Let me know .... :)

BTW, I have been retired about 2.5 years now and it is amazing how much has changed at the nuts and bolts levels. Methinks I will be passed by at some point in the near future LOL :D

Took a bit of recollecting, but it is very easy to use.

I have only used it with youtube, but when about to 'start' viewing a video, the 'helper' icon will appear on the title line. Click on that off you go.

To 'view' later right click on the 'icon' on your toolbar, click on the open download folder and then select the video.

Are you watching them online? or did they send them to you some other way?

If they are online I would use Firefox with the Download helper plugin as GG suggested.

Converting them to other formats is a whole other critter.

I'd say first solve the download problem.
