I knew I saw it somewhere! It might be good if the admins could make that more prominent. Then maybe it would be used.

If you click it, you will find out it is for spam and other offensive material and that you are supposed to say why you have tagged the post. It is not intended to deal with thread hijacking/off-topic. I know this because I use it to report spam.

+1 what Dusty said but for different reasons as the off topic stuff doesn't bother me much but if it causes those who are the most valuable toward the enjoyment of our hobbies to leave then it is in the Admin's best interest to shut it down as it will ultimately negatively affect the SS community at large if they continue to allow some to abuse the forum.

This is a wood working forum intended, at the time of its origin, primarily for Shopsmith owners. If it returned to that, there would be very few, if any problems with the forum.

A certain amount of off-topic discussion occurs on all forums. With this forum, at this particular time, the off-topic discussions are over whelming.

If I was the Administrator, I would strive to reduce all chatter that is not related to the title (the topic) of the thread in which it occurs.

"Conversation" within a thread would be related to the title of that forum section. That is "Maintenance and Repair" is about Maintenance and Repair". "General Woodworking" is about General Woodworking.

Yes, the categories are hard to make fit every discussion that some originators would likely initiate. That is where the Moderator has to cut us some slack but at the same time impose some control. Gross violators need to be informed that they are out of bounds (sent to the penalty box).

After being sent to the penalty box some number of times, expulsion is in order.

In addition to these ideas, I would propose another significant change to the forum structure. I feel that there needs to be a category for other than Shopsmith supported tools and equipment. Example: Shopsmith does not support Magna/Yuba tools and equipment. The 10/10E needs to have its own Forum category. Put 10/10E discussions in a group by themselves.

I have said my piece. I'll now return to whence I came.

Well, I must be late to the party.

As a relative newbie here, I have to say I have thought this forum to have great attitudes and people offering great assistance. I have found it "homy" and "comfortable". I also have received answers to all of my questions, that in itself is a great plug for this forum. (Oh, and I have spent a few dollars with Shopsmith also. LOL)

I have no clue what set Dusty off, nor any others who left. Nor am I going to go searching. I guess I hope that I am not part of the problem.

But from the outside looking in, I thought it was a pretty tight nit comfortable happy group that was just a wee bit crazy about some mechanical device that allowed them to make stuff! Lets face it, most of us craftsman type guys are a wee bit crazy about something.

I actually am a moderator on a fairly large forum. A lot of settings can be changed by the admin. If the current admin isn't a member that partakes in the everyday banter, then maybe a rank in file moderator or two would be in line to take care of minor disruptions which will always happen. We have people involved, disruptions will happen. Most issues with members are really pretty harmless and probably not even realized by the perpetrator, but there are some members that just want to disrupt. That is where the "membership ban" comes into play. We all have a "privilege" to post in a board, not a "right".

I am not going to "vote" due to my newness here. But I haven't seen anything that turned me sour about this board.

Hope I have not stepped out of line due to my newness here.
