shopsmith drill press
Can anyone tell me the correct procedure for raising the shopsmith to the drill press mode,,,,its all i can do to lift it,,,am i doing something wrong,,,,mine is the 520 model
Maybe you need to loosen the arm lock knob (part #2 on the diagram here: http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/part ... xpview.htm)? Be sure to tighten it back when it's in drill press mode. (By design, the end of the lock knob does NOT meet the center of the "divot" on the base arm so don't think something is wrong when you notice that.)
Or maybe you need to clean/lubricate the hinge?
Or maybe visit the gym?

WHERE is the headstock positioned at on the tubes. The further to the left, the harder it is to lift.
