Belt Replacement Question

I need to replace the belt on my 10ER, can I use an automotive belt? If so, does anyone have a recommendation, i.e. Ford, Chevy, Dodge etc. Also what P/N? or does anyone have just like a Napa P/N or something that will work?

Hands down…get a Powertwist Link belt.

I own an older Craftsman belt drive table saw. It did vibrate and I thought that the vibrations and rattles were something that I had to live with. On numerous occasions I attempted to realign the belt and pullies to dampen the vibration, but nothing seem to help.

I had seen the information and read the reviews on the Powertwist Belt. I was interested in the belt, but I was hesitant to spend $25-$30 for the belt. Finally I took the jump and bought the belt.

It literally only took me a few minutes to size the Powertwist belt to match the length of my old belt and install it on the table saw. As soon as I turned on the switch I immediately heard and felt the difference. A HUGE difference! My table saw is now nearly vibration free and much, much quieter!!! It passed “the nickel test” with flying colors!!!

I am very, very happy with the Powertwist belt and the great improvement it made to my table saw. I only wish that I would have purchased it much sooner.

Take it from me; don’t hesitate to buy the Twist belt. It does everything that it advertises and it is well worth the cost.

The 1/2" Power Twist (link) belt works really well as a motor belt on the Mark V too. 35 links is what I use. Really reduces the vibration and does not stick to the sheaves when the Shopsmith is not used for some time. Skip Campbell (10ER) from Texas recommended the cog V belt which also helps reduce vibration and is much cheaper than a link belt. I have used both of these and the Shopsmith belt depending on what the customer wants. I use link belts on my Mark Vs and all my belt driven equipment for many years. They seem to last forever and are easy to change the length.

Changing from cast pulleys to machined steel pulleys on your table saw will reduce the noise and vibration even more.

If you are referring to a Model 10e/r with a speed changer, YEP!

I've heard from people on the 10ER Yahoo group that those belts cause excessive wear to the pulleys.
