help with some issues on a shopsmith V

in the pic above you can see the table top for my newly acquired Craigslist find.
the problem is the the table hinges are froze in place .I used penetrating oil on the hinge and got it to move a little but it is still very hard to move and getting worse .I am scared the aluminum will brake if I continue working it back and forth .I also tried heat but no help there
any ideas ?

my next thing I am trying to do if find out how old the shopsmith is
here is a pic of the only number I can find

and my other question is do I have all that I need to do MORTISING ?

according to the mother ship serial number chart
serial number 319397 is a 1956

As for mortising, I prefer a decent set of chisels. More precise and generally faster than performing the setups required.
Just my preference. I'm moving away from a lot of my machine work, I find I prefer the quieter, less dusty environment with a workout included.

Is the trunion tilt angle clamp loosened?;) Remove the table from the trunion pivots(4 screws). That allows you to concentrate on them one at a time.

For future reference, Since it is a '56', it has a "B" headstock casting.

You have the mortising 'attachment' and 'hold down'. The ss chisels have a 5/8" shaft. There are many who dislike the that attachment as the table does not support the considerable force required to use it well. Most place a prop under the table to help that. Sharpening the chisel is critical(as well as chisel/bit 'headspace').

Just a hint on penitrating oil. Mix up acetone and auto tran fluid at a 50/50 rate. This works better for me than most you buy.

WOW!!
I never would have believed this thing would be that old.
and she still runs.what a testament
and I did loosen the trunion tilt angle clamp but still its a no/go
and I will try the (acetone and auto tran fluid ) mix and see if I can get this thing to let go with out braking .
and after a closer inspection I am finding a few more things I have to go through.
here are some pics of some problem spots I will have to address

the wrong kind of power cord

and check out the ground wire ,tell me its not supposed to be like that. lol

some nasty cracks in my belt

but I did find a new one in the box of parts so that's a plus

Yep, that's a gilmer drive, just like my '55. Nothing wrong with a gilmer drive IMO.

This is a great opportunity to learn everything about the Mark V.
Please check out the sticky threads in the top of the maintenance forum. A lot to learn and know from there. The gurus on here can assist with pretty much anything that needs advice/assistance.

Allow me to again encourage you to remove the table from the triunions. Before you can use it, the table most likely needs to be aligned anyway. 4 screws and the trunion can be attacked more effectively.

I am going to try and do just that tomorrow and see if I can get the table top loose ,it must be some kind off aluminum oxide growth/corrosion in there making the fit so tight .
