10ER Quill Shaft

Post by tbirdtim »

Is the Diameter of the shaft 5/8" like the Mark V? I have a bid on a 10ER but all I need is the Sanding disc. Will it fit my Mark V?

Anyone interested if I should get it?

Thanks Tim

To further add to this post, "almost" anything that mounts on a Shopsmith quill, will mount on ANY other quill. The "almost" is for the speed reducer and speed increaser, for the Mk5 series, won't work on the Model 10, from what I've heard. ANYTHING that mounts JUST on the spindle will work. Regardless of what the catalog says.

JPG, quill diameter is 1.75 and the spindle is 0.625, inches, correct?

10 ER, stripped down.
Basic 10ER, Parts machine. Will be a semi-dedicated drill-press machine.
10 ER, a "survivor" of the trailer fire, in the back yard, needing restoration. Has a Mk5 headrest. Finally, stripped down.
Numerous parts, for Model 10 stuff. Except for lower saw guard, A and B adapters, I've got it.

Looking for one more, or some 9 inch extension table raisers.

That is what I thought. Sanding disc doesn't mount (directly) on the quill. Mounts on the spindle. (Quill doesn't spin. Spindle does. Maybe that's why it's called the "SPIN"dle.)

Yes, I was confused, that is why I asked.

Tim, unless you get a MK5 later version sanding disc, it could be aluminum, and (in my {never to be} humble opinion) they may be warped. About half of the ones I've seen are, to the tune of at least 50 to 100 thousandths horizontal runout. Of course, that can be fixed.

Spindle is 1, 3/4ths inch? (1.75)

Same as the quill? :D

Tim, I be pickin' on my friend.
Also, trying to point something out.

Spindle is .625 inch, or 5/8ths.
Quill is 1.75, or 1, 3/4ths inch.

Sorry guys, took Machine shop class, way back in
the early '70s, and STILL remember the fractional/
decimal breakdown, for the common sizes.

(And, it's STILL fun to pick on Galloping Ghost!)

I'm still interested to join the 10ER cadre.
My only concern is costs.

Please send me a PM if you win the bid.
