I found an ad for The Craftsman Gallery [ http://www.chipsfly.com ] where among several different tools they are selling - for $17.95 - a micrometer for setting plane blades. It can be used on hand planes, jointer and planer blades to set height.
If you go to this link you will find more info and a video on it [ http://www.chipsfly.com/product/35-580.html ]
I ordered one and after using it for several days I am impressed. I have also used it to check the flatness of a hand plane bottom. The price is right too.
