Recessed frame help

Post by justtim561 »

Any ideas on how I could do this better with what I have? I have no accessories for my router.

I think a little more explanation of what you are trying making and how you have been trying to do it would be helpful.

Make it from 5 pieces rather than 1. Or maybe 2(frame/back).

Use guides(fence) to prevent the errant cuts.(on side opposite the one being routed).

I was trying to make a recessed frame for some puzzles so I have the router bit in my drill press but would much rather use the router.

Make the bottom sheet separate and glue it to the frame. If you want the frame to be one piece, cut it on a jig saw or scroll saw
, then glue it to the bottom piece.
The sickness is spreading:

Mark V goldie 1962 (I think)
Mark V grey 1978
Shopsmith attachments: 2 Jig Saws, Bandsaw, Jointer, Planer. Shaper tooling, many adapters, arbors, etc.

Yes make a frame and route out a dado for the bottom. It will warp badly the way you are doing it even if you could get clean cuts. That set up also looks a little dangerous.
