Howdy folks,

My hat is off to Shopsmith for hosting this site and the Admin for keeping this site secure and operational. I have been managing forums since the mid 1990's and know the pain of upgrading to new versions of forum software. Sometimes the upgrades go smoothly, but all are important to implement new security improvements. The upgrade process catches most bugs.

I suggest we pitch in and help Admin when we find a problem by sharing it with the admin. Complaining about things online in public doesn't show the respect the admin deserves.

Agreed, however some of the discussion between ourselves has created a public revelation of features not previously apparent to those discussing. That relieves Admin from wasting time since a method already exists.

Also, I assure you he is monitoring our comments.


So far the only serious thing I am concerned about is the lack of inline posting of photos as they were defined originally with the old software. I have faith that Admin will overcome that when he is able(has time etc.).

For new posts a way does exist, we just need to get used to that 'new way'.

I've read all the replies on the new formatting. One thing is clear. Few of you have had to deal with the new and improved government healthcare system, known as CACA (Congressional Affordable Care Act). This is a pain in the asp but a piece of cake in learning how to use it compared to CACA. The Admin, and IT staff are working to make it user friendly. They don't have the $$$$million from wee taxpayers to pay for it. While I'm not pleased and would like to keep my former provider I may learn to live with this one. At least it isn't SSCare with all of CACA's unintended (intended) consequences.

After my first horrified view I have accepted this one, don't love it nor like it but may learn to embrace it; so long as it doesn't stab me in the heart during the embrace (as one other previously mentioned website seems to have done.)

An earlier post commented on the viewing options(new post/unread post/active post/unanswered post) but I find them properly labeled.

There are now more options than we had before. The filters do what the labels say they do!!!

An improvement IMHO.

Okay, it's going to take time to understand and appreciate the new look - us old codgers have to learn to get used to changes!

I don't understand why in the screenshot from this morning, my username is the only one in light blue. It's as though the 'system' knows I am viewing even though I had not logged in. If that were true, why do I need to log in?

I suspect something else is at work. Please, what's the rule admin?

Seriously I think the light blue indicates you are NOT logged in.

forrest; I see that you are using the shopsmith1 format; have you tried the ProSilver format.

I have to echo the suggestion to change to the prosilver format. I don't know if it's inherently better, but it MUCH more familiar to those of us used to the previous forum setup.

Okay. I changed to prosilver format (who knew it was under Board Preferences - right, everyone but me ) and it is better. But, JPG, I am logged in and still in that light blue.
