hi -- i recently bought an older SS bandsaw (s/n 19371, cast iron table). i'm building a standalone base for it -- i own a 10er, and a separate base seemed to make more sense than buying all the adapters i'd need to attach the bandsaw to an older machine.
i just got the first of my pair of drive pulleys in the mail. it's for a 5/8" shaft, and like all of the SS quill-mounted parts, it fits right on the quill shaft like it was meant to be there. (no, that won't be its permanent home: i was just checking the size.) but when i try to slip it, or the jacobs chuck, or the lathe adapter, onto the 5/8" bandsaw driveshaft, they don't fit -- well, they barely start going on, and then bind up immediately.
my digital calipers show the ID of the pulley and the SS accessories at .624 (SS stuff) or .625" (the pulley), and the OD of the bandsaw shaft as .627. the OD of the SS quill shaft measures .623.
i'm surprised that the bandsaw shaft would be oversized. should i be? this forum message (the second in the thread) makes me think that i'm not alone, but i couldn't find JPG's "other thread" in order to find out more: http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/viewtopic.php?p=33125
the pulley i have in hand is the 2" motor pulley, so it's actually the other, 6" pulley (should arrive monday), that needs to fit the bandsaw. but since they're both T.B.Wood pulleys, i have no reason to think the bore size will be different.
any ideas appreciated!

Either a small(very small will cause this)burr or some oxide(rust) buildup on the shaft may be your problem. With very fine abrasive cloth/paper(400 or finer or steel wool)polish the shaft.
Look first for something that may be causing the pulley to get cocked on the shaft.
Polishing may reveal the 'bump'!
FWIW 0.001 clearance is TIGHT!!!
Polishing the pulley bore may also be fruitful. Try both.
A flat file is useful for removing high spots(use non aggressively, and move around the shaft).

thanks -- i think there was, indeed, a bit of a bump at the end of the shaft, adjacent to the flat. a fine file took care of that, and then some 400 grit emery paper used both on the pulley and the shaft got it to fit at all.
it's still very tight, but i think it will work. i'll wait 'til i have the actual pulley that goes on the shaft before i do anything more.
interestingly, my 10er lathe adapter and drill chuck still don't fit the bandsaw shaft at all.

If ya put your drill chuck on that shaft, then pull it off, you should hear a "POP". That's how TIGHT it should fit.
SS 500(09/1980), DC3300, jointer, bandsaw, belt sander, Strip Sander, drum sanders,molder, dado, biscuit joiner, universal lathe tool rest, Oneway talon chuck, router bits & chucks and a De Walt 735 planer,a #5,#6, block planes. ALL in a 100 square foot shop.
