SS 520 maintenance checklist

Does anyone have a handy checklist already prepared for maintenance of the SS 520? I'm looking for someone's checklist that works through the manual and compiles the maintenance steps into one place.

I am confident that someone has prepared such a list but not I. I spend a lot of time in the shop and some times without a real project so I do maintenance. From my point of view, maintenance consists of three major processes. Clean, lubricate and wax. These get done at least three times a year. Alignment is another important process but I check and redo alignment on an as required basis. Table alignment is, in my opinion, the only critical alignment. The others, if not done properly, will create errors in your work but do not create safety hazards. If the table is out of alignment, it can create a safety issue. I suppose the rip fence can be put in that category too but I so seldom have to realign the fence that I sorta take it for granted.

If there is a single maintenance function that MUST be done, I would put lubrication in that category.

I know this is not a checklist. I am sorry but I don't have one to offer.

I agree with everything Dusty said. If your 520 has a PowerPro headstock, lubrication is not necessary. If it has a standard headstock, then lubrication is needed every 10 hours of operation. For example: If you figure you run your headstock 10 hrs/month, then do monthly lubrication.

To add one more item to put on your maintenance list. "Tune up your ears" Listen carefully and learn how the machine sounds at different speeds. If the sounds change from their norm, investigate the cause.
