My son and I recently made a few knives using blade kits from Woodcraft. Along the way, we ran across a very nice flex drum sander package from Seyco (model #DS-01). The flex drum sander works very well at sanding down the wood knife handles after mounting. The picture shows one of the cylinders mounted on my Mark V model 510:
Basically the kit consists of a aluminum extrusion rod and foam sanding cylinders which slide over the rod. The rod slips right on the output shaft on the motor head:
The kit was originally designed to work with a low speed grinder - in my shop, we usually use it permanently mounted on our 8" grinder in place of one of the grinding wheels:
These drums kick up a lot of sanding dust and, if you value your lungs and don't want dust all over your shop, you really really need some form of dust pickup right at the cylinder hence the nozzle you can see lurking just behind the cylinder (the dust pickup works very well, by the way).
The somewhat crumbled band on the cylinder was caused by a heavy handed wood worker!! My bad but no harm done.
Seyco is primarily a vendor for scroll saws and accessories and can be found on the web at:
http://www.seyco.com
The basic kit (DS-01) costs about $40 and the cylinders (in 80, 120 and 220 grit) are about $6 each. Highly recommended.

Thanks for the review and pictures, Bob.
I have a couple of their drum sanders but not that one. Next on my list, though.

Those look like a good addition. I have had the SS pneumatic drum sander for about 25 years and really like that you can change the pressure or hardness of the drum.
