Another Gold Star for INCRA

Post by benush26 »

For Christmas my Sister and her family bought me the INCRA Wonder fence (I had the LS system). She got it through Amazon. It had a piece damaged during shipping. It was just the dust port so no real functional loss but when I asked Amazon, they said I could send the whole thing back for a gift certificate, but they did not bother with just one item.
I wrote Mark at INCRA referencing the broken part number (got it wrong but Mark knew better!!), telling him it was broekn and asked if I could glue it.
He wrote back that gluing would not hold for long and that he had arranged to send a replacement piece to me!!

Wow! He had to find my address just from an email and then was kind enough to send me the replacement piece!! The part number I had referenced was for some metal bracket however he was able to deduce it was a plastic dust port.

Anyway, in a world where Customer Service can be a test of patience, it was SO uplifting to know that INCRA still walks the walk.

Just wanted to pass this along.

Be well,
Ben

Mark at Incra was very kind and generous with his time when I needed help setting up an IBox on the SS. At the time, they hadn't made one for the SS. Between the two of us....actually mostly Mark, we got everything worked out and the IBox is a jewel of a tool.
Yep, Incra has fantastic CS!

Obviously he did not want to repeat the process. Thanks for being responsible for the SS version! :D

Ben,

Good to hear that you've had such great customer service from Incra. Do you attach the LS to your Shopsmith?

I picked up a used TS/LS for a very good price a few months ago, was debating on how to attach the rails to my new to me 510 and/or a workbench. I've since seen a couple videos and pictures that make me think that maybe I don't need to bother with the rails for what I want to do.

I also want to get a Wonder Fence once I figure out how and where I'm going to use the fence.

No credit due here. When I bought mine, they were already on their way with the SS version. I just didn't know it until Mark and I talked.
All it took were a few adjustments not covered in their manual. A couple screws caused a problem but, we worked around that.

Hey Roy,
The fence just rests on the rails (either conventional saw or Shopsmith). With the version from SS you are given adapters to fit the 510 or 520 rails. L shaped pieces are bolted to the fence with a cardboard shim placed under the fence. You can see them at the front and back of the main table where they attach to the fence.
The SS version has a special box which is bolted to an auxiliary table,

however I don't think it would take much effort to design your own mounting system. The extension table needs two holes drilled into it so the gold box is bolted in place. I would think anything that mimicked that would work well.
When using the fence, the repeatability is amazing. I use the T-nuts in the miter slot as a reference (recommended in the literature).

The Wonder fence incorporates the use/need of a router (and therefore a router table) and can be used for making precise yet quick finger and dovetail joints if you have the templates, stops and 90 degree accessories. In addition it has a nice center throat design which would allow using it as a shaper.

Due to space constraints I am modifying a conventional router table to fit on a SS. There is a posting somewhere  with some pictures of the ongoing design. :o
I had planned to finish up the project in warmer climes, however reality gets in the way of dreams (at least for the near future)

Have fun incorporating your new positioner into the SS.

Ben

Ben,

Thanks for the reply and photo.

I'm considering building an MDF floating table with some T-track across it and drill a couple holes through the back cross box extrusion for bolts to fit into the track. I should be able to get the table very accurate using my CNC (after I get it unburied and running again).

I think it was your DIY router table add-on that has me re-thinking and strongly leaning toward using the 510 versus other options. I'm trying to find some table tubes to use to build the two tables, but, naturally, I'm not currently seeing any on ebay from 510->520 upgrades.

I've watched a ton of videos on the Wonder Fence and I'm sold on getting one in the near future, along with a Mast-R-Lift II (still debating between JessEm and Incra).
