Ok, I have not gotten into the 21st Century yet 'cause I still use a chalk line to install crown moulding.
The bright pink line is going to show in spots even after caulking so I am hoping someone knows how to remove it and leave the wall paint intact. The walls are with latex and I was hoping to not have to repaint them.
I have tried brushing, but some always stays in the paint divots and creases.

Vacuum crevice tool?

Hi Forrest,
Use a dry soft bristle paint brush to get most of it followed by Silly Putty. The Silly Putty lifts the remaining powder. I have used plumbers putty, however it doesn't work nearly as well. It can leave traces of the putty in the crevices. I have heard of others using duct tape, but not something I would trust.
When constructing decks, our snap line left yellow chalk along one edge. We tried rinsing and brushing, but it wasn't until we saw my friends young son using Silly Putty to pull copies of the Sunday funnies that we thought to try it. It works like a charm.
As simple and logical as beeg's suggestion is, I've not tried it but I would think it would be great and you don't need to have little kids around! Why else would you have Silly Putty?!?

IIRC, Silly Putty was originally developed as a wall paper cleaner. As such, it oughtta do the trick for chalk.

Ben, I wanted to try silly putty but local Target did not have real silly putty. The fake stuff is way too sticky.
Had good success with a soft bristle brush and denatured alcohol. Dissolved the chalk and pencil marks. Quick wipe with a cloth to pick up all is needed so the alcohol doesn't dry and leave the chalk remains.
