considering these Shopsmiths in Wisconsin-advice appreciated

Post by rswaty »

Hello everyone,
I'm in the market for a Shopsmith. I like tinkering, have limited space and want to give a Shopsmith a try. I will be in the Madison/Milwaukee area soon and wonder if you think these are worth a look:

http://madison.craigslist.org/tls/4847471350.html No price given

Many thanks. I keep reading and reading, but will most certainly appreciate your time and advice!

The last one is a 10ER. I find when the seller quotes a any price in the ad of over $2000, they are expecting too much for their Shopsmith. I find the more SPTs, accessories and attachments offered with the Shopsmith are the better buys. Spend time operating any Shopsmith checking out the speed range and alistening for any loud or strange noises before buying. It is buyer market down my way these days as I have purchased 4 500s and 2 510s for an average price of $150 this past year. A few SPTs and attachments were included in this price.

The Milwaukee one is a mystery. May be the best deal depending upon what it is and what extra stuff comes with it.

The last one is too high for a 10ER although is looks to be in excellent condition.

The other two are questionable. The appleton one includes the bandsaw(good!!!). Realize they are both the older 500 version.
