i guess "treadmill motor-powered bandsaw would be more accurate, but the visual i get of running on a treadmill while using my bandsaw amuses me. :-)
in any case, i thought i'd share the results of my recent build of a standalone base for my SS bandsaw. i got the bandsaw on craigslist intending to mount it on my 10er -- i knew that i'd need to get one of the (excellent) mounting adapters from skip at mkctools.com, but i forgot that i'd also need to get skip's (excellent) SPT drive adapter and headstock pulleys, and i'd still need the coupling adapters. rather than buy all that stuff just to save having an additional motor in the house, i built a powered base. this is more useful to me anyway -- the 10er lives in the garage, and the bandsaw can live in the cellar.
i used a treadmill motor, and incorporated a nice dust collection system -- at least, it seems to work so far.

The pulley cover alone is worth the price of admission! Nicely done!
Gale's Law: The bigger the woodworking project, the less the mistakes show in any photo taken far enough away to show the entire project!
Re: treadmill-powered bandsaw
heh. thanks! i did wonder whether it was worth it a couple of times while trying to figure out the angles, and how big, but i'm glad i persevered. :-)

Re: treadmill-powered bandsaw
In hindsight, if going to split the shaft 'bushing', why file it down to begin with? *
Nicely done!!!
FWIW, AOM(on the motor plate) refers to 'air over motor' cooling which is why the flywheel served as a blower.
* Who said that? Upon cognizant reflection I consider that question to be stupid! Sorry!!!

Re: treadmill-powered bandsaw
thanks for the meaning of "AOM". good to know. and yes, splitting the bushing didn't change its thickness. :-)
(sorry this reply is so delayed -- is there a way to "subscribe" to threads on this forum? i use that feature on other sites to get email when a thread is updated -- otherwise i sometimes forget to come back for a while.)

I think there is(I never used it), but it may be 'member responding', not thread responding.pgf wrote:thanks for the meaning of "AOM". good to know. and yes, splitting the bushing didn't change its thickness. :-)
