Shop Made Disk Sander

I was reading this and wondering if a Shopsmith Disk could be adapted to use with this without the disk being modified?

I've seen home-brew disk sanders that use Shopsmith sanding disks as the foundation. I think I saw one on Lumberjocks.

But I'm curious why you would want to take the time to build your own disk sander using a Shopsmith sanding disk when the Shopsmith set up in disk sanding mode is already capable of doing everything any homemade one can do and more (speed control/quill feed/depth stop/rip fence back up,etc.).

Why? Because I want my disk sander to always be available and not have to break down what I'm working on. I'm not planning on building one of these. Just curious about mounting Shopsmith stuff on a motor shaft. If it's easy it might come in handy.

I have an head stock that I plan to turn into a sanding station at some point. If I had a base I would have it setup already. Disk on one side and belt sander on the other. After an email discussion with Bill Mayo I decided I should have another Shopsmith and keep it set up for sanding.
