Pulled the PowerPro Trigger

I bought the DIY upgrade several months ago and it was the best purchase I've made in a long time. What a difference in performance and power. You won't be unhappy with the purchase so stop second guessing yourself. You'll be happy you did it.

All I can say is after two years of producing/sanding 90 turned wooden bowls, 41 band saw jewelry boxes, and dozens of other projects, my PowerPro hasn't missed a beat yet. I'm still knocking on wood

So far the only issue was lower belt tension. After assembling per instructions the lower belt seemed terribly loose. I was not able to find a point where the belt tensions equalized. Then I noticed the motor tension/position screws were not even finger tight. After loosening the four locking screws on the side of the motor mount, I used feeler gauges to set a balanced zero between the tension screws on both sides and set the leveling screws so that the pulley was parallel to the belt. I then proceeded to progressively adjust the tension and leveling screws until the belt tensions balanced (per the instructions in the manual) somewhere in the 7:30 - 8:30 range and tightened down the locking screws. Now all is well, and there is no belt slip.

WOW!! I used my PowerPro upgrade for the first time today.. It was like a totally different machine. I was able to make cuts that in the past would blow my breaker or jam the machine and it never missed a beat. I am totally impressed. Well worth the money!!!

The difference from the standard M5 to the PowerPro is truely amazing! I have had mine for nearly two years now and still am amazed every time I use it. The quietness, the smoothness, the reversability and adjustability is what makes it so amazing. I have one issue I have to monitor frequently, which is to check items mounted to the spindle as they frequently loosen. I have noticed the biggest culpret to be my Nova lathe chuck when turning. No matter how carefull I am when tightening it still loosens. All in all I still absolutely love the PowerPro.

I don't want to get too off subject but I wanted to ask if you have checked the Nova 5/8" adapter to make sure you have the correct one for Shopsmith? It seems there was a problem where some people ended up with an adapter that was for a 5/8" shaft (vertical set screw) rather then the shopsmith version where the set screw is at an angle to match the flat on the shopsmith shaft.

Yes, I have checked the adapter and it is the correct one. It also happens with the sanding disc's as well. I even rock them back and fourth when tightening the set screws to make sure they are centered. I have heard it is because of the pulseing the DC motor does to maintain the set RPM.

I have never had a set screw come loose on my PowerPro FWIW ....

When I run the bandsaw, you can occasionally hear it make a thumping sound. It seems to bee the heavier the object on the quill, the more it is apt to loosen.
