shopsmith mark 5 not runnimg

Post by packerbakr »

Went to plug in my shopsmith, plug sparked and now it will not run. Any ideas what might be wrong. Or what to do to find out? Is replacing the plug an option?

Just because the plug arced does mean that the problem is in the plug. The short may be inside the machine but the plug arced because it is where the contact was made. You may have a GE motor that have been known to have poor wiring which has the insulation break down after a bunch of years.

If the wiring between the switch and the motor looks like this it will need to be replaced.
In any case check the plug first and if it is OK you will have to check all of the wiring to find the cause.
