Table legs completed
After getting the blanks roughed out over the weekend I completed the tapering today. The process brought out another reason to love my shopsmith. I have a Rockwell 10 inch table saw with a unifence which is my go to saw for most operations. The problem is that the blade on the Rockwell would not go high enough to clear the height of the jig and table leg. The SS on the other hand will go about 1/8" higher which was just enough to do the job ! The feed rate had to be significantly slower on the SS but it got the job done. Slicing 3" thick alder is definitely at the limit of the SS but it did the job beautifully.

Re: Table legs completed
Very cool. You have discovered one of the little know facts about the Shopsmith: it has a slightly greater depth of cut than other 10 inch table saws. 3.25 inches (through the table slot) for the Shopsmith vs. 3.125 for the industry standard.

Another advantage is that you can fit a 12 blade on the shopsmith if really needed. You can't use the blade guard so its not necessarily the safest move but in a pinch it will work. The power becomes an issue with the standard SS. Probably would work well with the PP. I have a bunch of 12" blades left over from when I had the commercial operation. There are times when I miss the power and capacity of the bigger tools but now days speed is no longer an issue and I love the McGiverish qualities of the SS.

First table glued up
Yesterdays project was to start gluing up the first of the table frames. It went fairly smooth and now for the other two.

Ok .It's looking good.I have to ask about the tapered legs.they are usually square on the outside and tapered on the two inside edges.I'm not knocking it,just wondering if you did that on purpose. I've never seen one like that.

Re: Table legs completed
The original version of the dining room table was done with the standard tapered legs, tapered on the inside facets. The boss looked at it and decided she wanted to see it with legs tapered on the outside facets. So I remade the legs and she liked them better with the outside taper. Fortunately the legs on that table are attached with hidden bolts. That is actually the second version of that table. The original was identical but part of a house we built in Carmel where the entire house, cabinets, doors, furniture and even the ceilings were done in the alder/mahogany motif. The client purchased all the furniture as part of the sale. My wife liked it so much we have decided to continue in that style. Previously I posted some views of two bedside stands that are almost complete. I have been waiting for her to pick out the onyx for the tops which she has just done yesterday so I can now complete them. They will involve creating lighting panels to illuminate the onyx tops. That is new territory for me. I have never played with led light panels before. I have used them for accent and under cabinet lighting but never actual panels. Here are shots of the carcasses as they are at the moment.
