Great, great grandson's Christmas gift

Re: Great, great grandson's Christmas gift
Yours looked great I'm just hoping for mine to look acceptable. I started the finishing tonight and should finish in the next couple of days as I need to get back to my sweethearts craft projects. Thanks for the info on the rubber bands (ammo). I'm trying to get gun metal grey for the barrels, trigger, hammer rubber band holding wheel, and lever. The receiver a faux brass and the wood stock a stain. We'll see as we all know how the best laid plans of mice and men......
Re: Great, great grandson's Christmas gift
Here is finished project. I put screws on both sides so it would look symmetrical. I also drilled gear pivot holes thru and thru to look like rivets. It took me a lot of tweaking of the gears and trying to find right size and number of rubber bands. It works well now. I used paint and stain. Gun metal grey and antique gold along with Watco dark walnut. Amen!

That looks great! You did a fantastic job.

You're too kind, it looks O.K.. Like all of us we know where the flaws are and when we look at what we did that is the first thing we see. I know what I would do differently if I did it again, but don't plan on making another one.

Made two-sided targets for the rifle. One side has animals and the other has number values.

Looks great and what a project. I'll bet that gets handed down for generations to come!
Gale's Law: The bigger the woodworking project, the less the mistakes show in any photo taken far enough away to show the entire project!

Although I told myself I wouldn't make another one, my brother saw it and wanted me to make him one. So I did, I like the grain in the stock better and I also made a revolving target stand. I got tired of standing the targets back up after the kids knocked them down. Here they are.
