Setscrew mystery

First post for this newbie. After running my 1993 Model 510 in drill press and then lathe mode I found a setscrew on the ground and can’t figure out where it came from. It is roughly 5/8-inch in diameter and 1/2-inch long (the same diameter but twice as long as the setscrew for a sawblade arbor). All the exterior setscrews seem to be in place – on the spindle knob, the spindle and idler hubs, the base arm and way tube tie bar – but obviously I’m missing something. Any idea where it belongs?

Possibly from the lathe tool rest or the tailstock?
Could be one from the way or bench tube set screws. (sometimes visible from under the tubes)
Most of the setscrews are 5/16 X 18TPI.
Also check the lathe drive center.

Do you have a belt sander? I've lost set screws from the sides of mine. The screws that are there to hold the support table.

I apologize for not remembering their names, but a couple of forum members have posted lists of Shopsmith setscrews. The lists show 5/16" -18 x 1/2" setscrews in the rip fence and the bandsaw fence.

There is a 1/2" - 13 x 5/8" setscrew in the headrest. I couldn't find anything 5/8" in diameter.

5/16" is correct, of course. Sometimes my typing outpaces my thinking -- especially when I am typing on one screen and watching basketball on another.... And your first suggestion was also spot-on. The setscrew had escaped from the tool rest.

The exact same thing happened to me but I never did find where the screw went. That was over 10 years ago. The set screw is still in a pill bottle sitting on a shelf in the shop.
