Dave Folkerth Is Robert's brother(CEO) and was not working with Shopsmith for a few years until he started during the traveling demos. Dave Folkerth worked with me getting Shopsmith parts years ago. A great person to deal with and still remembered me when we met in Jan. locally for his demo.
So there IS hope!

So I just finished installing the PowerPro DIY in my 1997 headstock and upgrading my Mark V to Mark 7 status. I believe I have the correct tension on the motor belt (1/8" - you could bounce a quarter off it I think) and the proper balance of belt tension between the motor belt and the final drive belt; it seems to be most quiet with the slot in the eccentric bushing somewhere between 9 and 10 o'clock. However (comma pause for effect) the idler shaft/auxiliary output shaft gets pretty hot after only a few minutes running at 3450 RPM. It gets much hotter and faster than my other headstock with the "old guts" in it. Not so hot that you can't touch it, but hot enough that it's not comfortable to hold more than a few seconds. I'll be calling Tech Support this week, but any advice or suggestions are most welcome! Thanks guys!
EDIT: Well after reading more threads (which I should have done in the first place) it seems that the heat is normal, or at least a lot of other people are reporting similar findings to mine.

I have read a number of these comments on line. I wanted to share my experience. I did the upgrade from mark 5 to mark 7 myself and found that it ran very hot compared to my mark 5. After reading I thought maybe this was normal. However after a few months I decided it just could not be right. And the final straw was when I could not use my 1 1/4 inch forstner bit because it would stall (spinning the belts). So I put the unit in the drill press position and removed the covers. Then I set the unit on low speed and watched the belt. What I found was that I had the belt off by one notch so it was running at a slight angle. I also noted that my motor was not square to the belt, having a slight tilt. So I took the time and loosened everything up and then readjusted the belts so they were perfectly aligned. Then I ran through the process of tightening and adjusting the concentric to maintain tension and alignment. It now runs smooth and does not heat nearly as much. I agree with others it still generates more heat than my mark 5 did but not to the point of burning you when you touch it. Just uncomfortable to hold for more than a few seconds. So just thought I would share this with the forum.
Mine will also slip when I use very large Forsnter bits if I feed too fast. I guess I need to go through the belt adjustment process again. One of the belts is too loose by my thinking.
