Two Tool Power Stand?

I'd like suggestions on this idea...

I have a Dc motor with speed control and reverse that I've mounted on my greenie. With the reverse I can mount the planer on the wrong side and the jointer on the normal place. While this if my second Mk V i' like to use it v as a drill press (cut down) and make a power stand that holds both the jointer and planer driven by the DC motor.



I'm trying to think of a way to avoid having to wrestle with belts to switch which tool is driven:

The most obvious to me is to just have a way of releasing the tendon on an idler shaft and swap the belt over. It would work but I'd like to come up with a better way (by better I mean something I can say "cool, I made this!" As I use it... It's a hobby, after all)

I picture the motor below the two tools, which are mounted so their pulleys are facing each other in the middle, though probably with some space between. It actually may make more sense to have the pulleys on the outside. The motor driving an idler shaft that is actually three shafts in line, with the central, driven shaft able to be slid (and locked) over to mate with one or the other outer shafts, each of which drives a tool above. I just need ti find a quick release coupler and a bearing or mechanism that allows that linear motion as well as the exoected rotation of the central shaft.


It would only be slid when power is off so no clutch required, instead I'm thinking something like a "jaw coupling" http://m.ebay.com/itm/NEW-BOSTON-KEYED- ... 0998400107

It's the bearing that allows the center shaft to slide AND rotate that I have not yet found. Keeping it in place once slid and engaged won't be hard.
Any ideas welcome! I'm new to this stuff.
