Getting a 10er this weekend but no base, anyone got ideas?

I may be getting a 10er this weekend. 1951 model I am told. Its on some kind of ugly homemade base, are there any pics or plans for a nicer base maybe with storage? Oh another question.. Why are the old Mark V machines so loud! I was set to buy one with a 510 table and fence and at 1/2 speed it was too loud then much less full speed. That one may need some TLC to quiet it down but not enough I think. I hope the 10er is quieter.

My 10ER is much quieter than my Mark VII. I don't have a Mark V but I'll bet the Mark VII is a lot like an older Mark V

10ER's are much quieter than MK V's. They are almost as quiet at the Power Pro headstock.

All 10E/ER benches are homemade. The metal legs were an optional accessory, the wooden bench tops were all made by the owners.
Magna Engineering did provide plans for the bench.

This is the bench I made, This one did not come with a bench when I bought it.

I added the 2x6 blocks at the ends to give clearance for the motor,
I should rotate the motor end caps so the capacitor faces the back instead of down.
Also I am thinking of adding a drawer/drawers below the top for tool storage.

There are many nicely restored 10ERs (and MK Vs) shown in this thread.

I think the Mk Vs are noisier because of the variable sheaves.

Thanks for the plans! It does have some kind of base on it but how good I do not know. I think now that it is a 10E not ER. Will know tommorrow.

If it is a 1951 it should be a 10ER. Post pictures. The fence, the table trunnion, the tail stock and the fixed table bracket will tell the story.

Ok, how do I post pictures on here.
It has a rolling base to it, that I guess has worked OK since 1951 so I will use it for a while. Not as heavy duty and the SS bench. I used Evaporust on a lot of small pieces and they came out nice. Have to get more to finish up. I will get it smoothly working then decide it I should keep it. I got a nice set of 7 old Craftsman lathe tools that cleaned up nicely with it. Got two belts one brand new. One sawblade I can test with 5 others I can toss. Got the little jointer thingy but no arbor. Got the sanding disk, lathe bowl turning thingy. Motor is Westinghouse 3/4hp with the capacitor facing down. The motor has some runout but runs fine. Got pushsticks, lathe rest, fence (has one lock on the front), miter guage, some pullys and some weird metal thing, not sure it belongs with it. Pics will show more. I am missing some things: splitter(have the guard), allen wrench, arbor for the lathe, arbor for the jointer head. Pics soon as I figure out how! Oh this came from the son of the original owner. He has a Mark V so did not need this one in his storage locker. He will contact me if he finds more parts. It was from Craigslist, located in the boonies. The ad/pictures were not very good so it took him a while to sell it.

Oh, I hualed it in my Explorer after taking it off its base. This thing is heavy! Two of us got it in, I alone got it out.
