Spring in Northern Utah

Post by jsburger »

The high temperature this morning was 74 degrees. As the front approached the SW/SE winds increased and were blowing steady at 35 to 45 MPH by early afternoon. As the front passed the wind shifted to the west and then the NW. That was about 3 PM. We had a peak wind speed of 61 MPH. I have a Davis Vantage Pro 2 weather station on my roof. When the front passed and the wind started to shift the the temperature started to drop. At 6PM it is 34.1 degrees.

The summers in Utah are great but don't count on anything before the end of June.

I feel your pain! Yesterday we had a windy day. Gusts to 45MPH. Today was predicted to be breezy. The breeze turned out to be steady at at least 30, but many, many gusts to 45 and blowing dust. A lot like your pictures. Couldn't even keep a baseball type cap on. Didn't have a chin strap. EDIT: Newspaper today (next day) reported 55MPH at the airport 5 miles West of us.

Of course every day has some wind. It's better at not more than 20.

Glad we didn't have 60 MPH - would have lost some shingles.

At least in the shop there was no outside desert dust. Got in several hours work.

I've always said that Spring is the ugliest season of the year. This year is no different than normal for that. Spring here means very unsettled weather and lots of wind. Summer isn't much better because then the tornadoes and thunderstorms try to destroy everything. Fall is the nicest time of the year because the horrible heat of Summer is gone. The weather is mild and settled with very little wind. Winter is actually nicer than Spring or Summer because the weather calms down. And, the snow is nice and peaceful.

Yesterday we had 82 degrees and winds gusting to 50mph. By Monday, we are forecast to have only 50 degrees for a high temp. Yes, Spring is doing its normal nasty weather like it always does.

Have to agree that spring sure has some unsettled and unsettling weather. The budding trees and wild flowers are nice, though.
It's been warm but windy around here. Nothing unusual about that. We usually get some hefty breezes with 40-50 mph gusts 3, 4 days + per week all through April, May and June. But, tonight, it's supposed to get down to 25 with a chance of snow tomorrow. Now, that's just plain wrong!
