Shopsmith Mark V Model 510 or 520 w/Slider

I voted no it doesn't offer any utility I don't already have. My main concern would be setup time. A miter sled has little or no setup time and offers the same functions.

I have that sliding miter table on my Ryobi BT3100, enjoy it there, but I'd not fiddle with putting it on a ShopSmith.

The number of responses is not great but I believe that I can conclude that there would be NO RUSH TO PURCHASE.

When I first posted this, I intended to remount mine and do a better presentation of the sled. I will have to do that later. I discovered that I have packed part of this sled away where I can not get to it without moving a much of heavy boxes. I apologize for this .

the unit shown is the sliding table from a Ryobi BT3100. The slidding table is basically a good product but it did have some problems. The slides were nylon and would wear and the adjustment screws had wear problems and more than one person snapped his off. Lastly the front end of the slide sticks out a fair distance so it will require a lot more shop room.

Advantagess basically it replaces a saw sled. Mitres are said to be very accurate and if the table is slightly higher than the main table all weight of the wood being cut rides on bearings (albeit nylon bushings).

I think this is a place where Shopsmith could open a market by designing a new main table for 510/520/ Mark 7 with a built in slidding table. Really not a hard design problem if you start with a blank slate. If they then went ahead a indexed it it would make a Shopsmith with an x/y indexing table. Both for milling and routing/shaping. It would be a super mortise cutter, inlay tool. If the indexing was done right they could even replace the incra jig products.

Price would be the determining factor. Looks very interesting.
