Today's Mystery Part
Not infrequently, I find parts from my Shopsmith (520) on the floor. It gets rolled around a lot. Normally, it's fairly obvious where the came from but for this one, I haven't got a clue. So let me turn to the experts. Does anyone have an idea what this might be from? It is ½" long. The threaded end is 3/16" dia. and about 11/32" long. The non-threaded section is 5/32" long and 5/32" in dia. with a rounded tip. The threaded end is slotted for a screwdriver. A photo is (I hope) attached. Thanks for your help

What, if any, accessory tools and, well, accessory stuff, did you have attached at the time?>
Oh, is it the limit screw for trunnion travel?

Yup, I think that's it. I could see the ones on my 500 table look just like that, only not sure about the length. I think mine are an 1/8" longer. Or not. I couldn't get a proper look (stiff neck). So, some trunnion stop flippy thing (for those wondering, that is the technical term. The common term is "tipping table mounting thing's rotation inhibition flippy thing).

Looks like a miter gauge stop screw for the 90 and 45 degree positions. Mine are 13/16 long but the two diameters are the same. FWIW, mine are silver and the threaded portion is much longer than it needs to be.lerbi wrote:Not infrequently, I find parts from my Shopsmith (520) on the floor. It gets rolled around a lot. I don't know about a 500 but his machine is a 520 as is mine. The trunnion stops are 1/4-20 bolts not a screw like that.fitzhugh wrote:Yup, I think that's it. Hmm, I think the jointer uses them. Perhaps the two sanders, jigsaw etc. I can check the jointer, jigsaw and bandsaw later.
Or they could be using it for something else of course. It is the exact form though I don't know about the length. It's within an 1/8 or so.

Re: Today's Mystery Part
In any event I think it is an 'angle' stop screw. Jointer is a good guess(assuming he has one!).
