Mark VII motor repair help

I have an old Mark VII which I've enjoyed using for many years. The motor stopped working (it would hum but not turn). I took the motor to my local motor repair shop specializing in AO Smith motors. He has just told me he cannot fix it because the internal start switch is worn out and he cannot get one from his supplier. Any ideas on what I can do?

Take parts off a burned out A. O. Smith motor of the same vintage.

Bring the leads out of the motor and add a manual switch or a start relay similar to the GE motor.

I am curious what part of the mechanism is worn out/broken.

A pix may be helpful in understanding 'the problem' and determining a possible 'fix'.

Assuming the rest of the motor is ok, this can be overcome with sufficient understanding and 'effort'.
